The primary objective of a Disaster Recovery Plan is to enable an organization to survive a disaster and re-establish normal operations.
In order to survive, critical operations must resume within a reasonable time frame so that business interruption is minimal.
Popular belief indicates that this plan deals strictly with the information technology side of a business
however; there is more to a business than just its computers.
The goals of your Disaster Recovery Plan should be to:
Identify weaknesses/potential threats and implement a disaster prevention program;
Minimize the duration of a serious disruption to business operations;
Facilitate effective co-ordination of recovery tasks; and
Reduce the complexity of the recovery effort.
The best time to plan your recovery is BEFORE the disaster strikes.
